Formed in 2017 in Brooklyn, The Listeners are a rotating cast of musicians fronted by Jeremy Willis, who handles songwriting duties, lead vocals and rhythm guitar. Drummer Hilary Case sings as well. Multi-instrumentalist Eben Bull, formerly of Spiritualized (Fat Possum/Bella Union/Double Six), plays synths, saxophone, cello, one-handed triangle, guitar, and violin. John Russell of Illuminator (Lowtemp) and Grace Kelly All day is on bass, backing vocals, and drum programming. William Suran of Express Rising (Numero Group) is on lead guitar. Russell Joye, formerly of Boston-based Grain Thief, has been their touring drummer since mid-2018.
Since their inception they have been packing houses all over New York City including St. Vitus, Union Pool, and most recently Mercury Lounge opening for Death Valley Girls. They have released several singles and their full length album "The Sweet Release of Death is All We Have to Look Forward To" will be out in 2019.
